Wilma Is On Her Way

Batten down the hatches. Wilma is on her way. The City of Miami Beach has issued an official Hurricane Advisory.

The National Hurricane Center has issued a Hurricane Warning for Miami-Dade County. A Hurricane Warning means that hurricane conditions are expected in the warning area within the next 24 hours. No evacuation orders have been issued for the City of Miami Beach. At 6:00 p.m. tonight, all regularly scheduled City of Miami Beach services and beaches will close; City parking garages will open for residents to park their vehicles; and SidewalkCafé operators must remove all outdoor café equipment.

What can we do? Just cover up and wait for her to blow over.

If we lose electricity and go offline, this Wilma post will start to feel stale. If it does, just amuse yourself with these Led Zeppelin Cats.

Update 1: NOAA and Miami weather links are here.

Update 2: As on 5am, the eyewall is moving over Collier County.

Here in Miami-Dade, the wind is really picking up and electricity has gone off a few times. More can be found at the NOAA Hurricane Local Statement.

From NOAA Hazardous Weather Outlook at 5:24 AM EDT MON OCT 24 2005:

...HURRICANE WARNING IN EFFECT FOR SOUTH FLORIDA…
...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR SOUTH FLORIDA….
...TORNADO WATCH IN EFFECT FOR SOUTH FLORIDA…

HURRICANE WILMA WILL MOVE ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA THIS MORNING,BRINGING DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, TORNADOES, AND TORRENTIAL RAINS, BEFORE EXITING INTO THE ATLANTIC OCEAN BY EARLY AFTERNOON.

"Wilma Is On Her Way"

Bryan Sereny says:

Hi Gus, I’m here in Bogota Colombia and am trying to find out more about Wilma’s affect on electrical outages in Miami Beach. Do you know of a way online to find out when power is expected to return?

Gus says:

Bryan, Miami Beach has power on Ocean Dr., Collins Ave., Washington Ave., and Alton Rd., but many of the residential streets are still without electricity.

Aside from the 8pm curfew, the city is getting back to normal very quickly. Most of the shops and restaurants are open, and Lincoln Road was going off last night.
