A Fish Called Avalon "Absolutely the BEST!"

I just came back from visiting So. Beach with 2 girlfriends. We ended up visiing A Fish called Avalon twice in 3 days because it was so good! The salads alone were to die for(Mixed Greens & Arugula Salad)!! We also had Lobster Cavatelli, Cilantro Cured Swordfish, Seafood Risotto, Rock Bass & Snapper au Poivre. I am on the internet because I am desperately trying to find some of their recipes. I don't know how I am going to go back to regular eating!

A Fish Called Avalon "Frenetic, confused service - mediocre food (surprisingly)"

The first time we visited A fish called avalon (AFCA) it was superb. That was in 2002. I recall we had the same waiter with a very distinct face.
Anyway, the service was confused and slow. The wait staff was clearly overburdened on a very busy Thursday night. I can excuse mediocre service if the food is great. Well, the bisque was outstanding with crawfish and lobster - and the oyster preparation was very good as well. But we had to remind them to bring it. I should have stopped there and just drank. My main course was Jamaican Grouper prepared jerk style with roasted tomato grits. It wasn't very good. Anyway - be carfeul what you order at AFCA, lest you be disappointed. They need to reel themselves in and try to recapture the quality they once had.

I went to A Fish Called Avalon with 3 friends and we all think it's just the BEST seafood place to go to. We are going back to Florida next summer and we are definitely going back.

A Fish Called Avalon "Delicious Dining on Ocean Dr."

My boyfriend and I had dinner at A Fish Called Avalon the other night. We sat inside but didn't miss out on a view. The dining room has huge windows and it overlooks the front porch as well as having a view of the beach in the distance. Our waiter's name was Freddy and he, as well as the busser helping him, was very attentive to our needs. The crabcakes were the best I ever had! The filet mignon was tender and juicy but even better was my boyfriend's parmesan-topped lobster tail that was taken out of the shell. For dessert I had a chocolate mousse tart in a cookie dough crust. After my first bite, I thought, finally, a chef that knows that the crust on a tart is as important as the filling. I almost ate the whole piece by myself. Our other dessert was a coconut dream tart in phyllo dough. Delicious! I would definitely go back and I recommend that others try this gem on Ocean Dr. You won't be disappointed!

Just returned from a wonderful vacation in Miami Beach. We're so glad we discovered A Fish Called Avalon. Everything we ordered was delicious and the service was great. The live music added to the romantic atmosphere. We had the Caesar Salad, Mussels and the Seared Ahi Tuna with Squid Salad. We dreamt about it. We returned two days later and ordered exactly the same dinner. Heaven!!!
