Dined at Nobu this past weekend (Good Friday evening) and had the most miserable experience ever. Sure, Nobu is snobby and overrated, but our party went in knowing that, having already eaten at Nobu before (let’s face it, a big part of Nobu is the “scene” anyway). However, was not expecting to be treated so monstrously by the MANAGER of the restaurant. Our party of four was by no means causing a scene or being obnoxious. Our only crime was that we were taking our time enjoying our overpriced sushi and drinks. As we were sitting in what is considered the “lounge” (as opposed to waiting 2 and 1/2 hours for a table) the manager felt obliged to refuse to serve us dessert when we asked for the menu. Instead, without warning (ANY warning), he approached us with the check and very curtly told us that we had been sitting too long without ordering anything and that we needed to leave because he needed the table. When we objected and told him that we had been waiting for !
a while to receive our drinks and the dessert menu, which is why we were still there, he merely told us “you’ve been sitting here for a 1/2 hour with nothing on the table. That would have been a good time to order dessert.” When I later confronted the manager about his behavior and asked for a card or two that we could use to contact his superiors, he responded “Sweetheart, I can give you two, three, four cards, I can give you my mother’s name and number just so long as you leave.” NEVER in my life—and in my very extensive dining experience—have I ever been treated so unprofessionally and rudely by the manager of a so-called “well-established” restaurant. Let it be said, I will never ever dine at Nobu again. I strongly advise others to seek out other fine restaurants in Miami, such as “Social” at the Sagamore hotel, where the service and food are excellent.
