510 Ocean: Paid too much for poor food and service  

I have never been so disappointed. How has 510 Ocean received such great reviews? I am from Boston and my girlfriend lives in Miami so I wanted to surprise her for Valentine’s Day. I wanted this to be a special night so I looked online to research the best restaurants in Miami. 510 was supposed to be “One of the places to go”,  “One of the top 5 restaurants in Miami” according to some websites I found.  First I made the reservations a few weeks in advance, then the restaurant called me at least 5 times to confirm the reservation.  I thought this was strange but figured it was just very busy and wanted to make sure we would show. We arrived that night ,the place was empty, we waited 15 min for someone to come to greet us.  Then another 15 min for the waitress to bring a wine list of which she had no knowledge.  It was a set 4 course menu for Valentines Day of $95/ person. No problem if the service and food are great.  Between our appetizer and sorbet took 30 min. and the sorbet tasted like rubbing alcohol. We then waited 45 min for our main course, when it arrived my steak that I ordered medium rare was like a hockey puck WELL DONE.  I do not mind spending money for a nice night out, however, for a $240 dollar bill I do expect good service and food.  I just can not get over how bad of an experience we had.  I would never go back or recommend this overrated place.
