Afterglo: Afterglo Burn   3-Star rating

I visited Afterglo this past week and thought it was a unique new way to position a restaurant - beauty cuisine rather than healthy dining.  The food, drinks, service, etc. all seemed quite delightful at the time.

What’s changed since the experience was the surprise (shock) I just received when reviewing my receipt for my expense report (I was entertaining clients the night I dined at Afterglo).  The waiter added a 15% gratuity to the check for a party of 3 (who consumed a total of 4 drinks - so no, he was not worried that we were too wasted to leave a tip).  He said nothing to me about having done so, nor did he say anything after receiving an additional $50 (on top of the $36 he had already added in).  My $300 dinner consisted of an $86 tip.  He was a good waiter - but not that good.

This is a very sad predicament for the restaurant.  They hired a thief.  And while I really should not let that taint my view, it has.  And I highly recommend everyone steer clear - the overall experience was good (prior to realizing the rip off), but not good enough to make up for it.

If you’re looking for a unique new place to try (and want something healthy), I DO NOT recommend Afterglo.  My new name for the place is Afterburn - and I’m cautioning everyone!!!

Afterglo is located at 1200 Washington Ave., Miami Beach, FL 33139.

"Afterglo Burn"

South Beach resident says:

For such as “experienced” traveler you don’t know very much.  Adding gratuity automatically is a standard practice in South Beach. 90%+ of the restaurants do so.  Similar to a little place called EUROPE!

I had a similar experience at afterburn except our service was nonexistent.  The food was great though. RUN don’t walk past this restaurant!
