SuicideGirls Coming to Town

SuicideGirls are coming to town but don’t worry, no one’s going to get hurt.  On the contrary, this performance is bound to raise a few spirits—and maybe a little more—at Studio A on October 29!

The SuicideGirls tour is the onstage variation of a highly successful website that began humbly in 2001 and has become this generation’s Playboy.  Featured on the site are not only creative and intelligent women who defy mainstream ideals of beauty, but also alternative culture, entertainment and yes, like Playboy, some good reads that range from in-depth interviews and original fiction to political commentary.  The women here aren’t your typical airbrushed busty blondes a la Girls Next Door, but post-modern pin-up, glamorous and artfully imperfect, decorated with tattoos and piercings.

SuicideGirls is also an online networking community.  Paid membership users also post on message boards and even meet in person through their profiles.

SuicideGirls tour takes the lifestyle idea onstage.  Now in its second year, with bookings already planned for a third season, the tour “is an updated version of burlesque,” explains SuicideGirls founder, Missy Suicide. “It’s got a punk rock twist to it.”  While not a strip show—the girls are apparently covered, however scantily—the show is still rioutous and risqué.  Acts include a contortionist, hula hoops and very messy chocolate sauce.  Eight performers, all of them SuicideGirls, collaborated with a professional choreographer to prepare the nationwide tour.

On this year’s repertory is one act that promises to be hilarious:  a parody of Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and Britney Spears, all killed off by a Dark Madame.
