A Scary Warning About My Neighborhood

June 06, 2007 By Gus in Miami: Local News  | 10 Comments

Last night, someone glued a scary flyer to the front of my house warning us about the street. The note read…

BECAREFUL!

THIS AREA’S CORNER IS VERY DANGEROUS BY GANG MURDERS PARKING THEIR CAR TO KIDNAP PEOPLE ABOUT 10:30, 11PM, OR LATEST. WE NEED MORE SERVICE OF SECURITY

ALL NIGHT IT’S VERY FRAGILE HERE

PEOPLE LIVING AROUND HERE CALL POLICE 911 IN CASE OF EMEGENCY

What do you make of it?

We are the only house on the block that got spammed.

Seems like a strange way to warn your neighboors, don’t you think?

"A Scary Warning About My Neighborhood"

Michelle says:

Honestly, I don’t know what to make of it. There was some new gang grafitti on another wall just a hop skip and a jump away. I was wondering if a new gang has moved in the area.

When we first moved here, there were cops that sat at the end of the street all day and night. That only lasted a couple of months. Now they just come and go periodically.

I thought maybe it was getting better as I haven’t heard voices outside at night like I used to and no strange cars parked at all hours. This is a whole other level. I am going to keep my doors locked and thank God each and every day that there are bars on all the doors and windows.

That looks like something that would appear on this blog:

Anyhow, I wouldn’t worry about that ominous note just because it looks like some prankster kid put it together. How’s the individual going to know the schedule of kidnappings? “Call police 911 in case of emergency?” That’s an innovative suggestion.

Gus says:

Hi Xavier, thanks for commenting.

The note doesn’t look like a kids prank to me. If it looks ameturish, that might be because I live in Little Haiti, and most of my neighbors speak English as a second language.

The note was also not addressed to us, rather it was a message to everyone who lives in the area.

When I first saw it plastered there, it looked like graffiti art.

I don’t spook easily, but I don’t know what to make of it.

Xavier, I just added Boom or Bust: Miami to our list of Recommended Sites.

Sorry for not adding it sooner. I like your site!

Thanks for being a good neighbor, and trying to put my head to rest on this “Scary Warning” thing. smile

Perhaps your note is nothing more than the latest marketing techniques used by some unscrupulous Real Estate agents to solicit your home for purchase…If not it does give me some great ideas.

Xavier says:

Now that you mention it, I would be spooked too. Anyhow, better to be warned than not.

Thanks for adding me to your list of recommended sites. It’s a great compliment coming from you.

I think it’s funny that the sign is glued on there so well that it survived the monsoon yesterday!

Maria de los Angeles says:

Yikes, you guys!

I think it’s funny that it gives you the exact times, methods and place of the kidnappings.  Did you report this note to the police?

In any case, PLEASE BE SAFE!

Gus, I’m glad you added BOB.  Xavier’s site rocks!

Last night at 10:30pm, we heard a woman shriek. It stopped me dead in my tracks but when I looked out the window, it was mu neighbor. Probably did it as a joke.

FunAndGames, that is the craziest tactic I ever heard of if that’s what’s behind it. Talk about driving downt the market in a neighborhood.

mkh says:

Well, if you guys would quit murdering people walking past your house there wouldn’t be any need for a sign, right? wink
