Miami Vice Premiere in South Beach, Not Miami

Noticeably absent from the film, though, is Miami’s most popular destination: photogenic South Beach, the neighborhood whose current incarnation the original Miami Vice helped build. insiders say what is missing from the film is Sout Beach the Miami neighboorhood

That exclusion, Mann says, was intentional.

‘‘We shot in South Beach when South Beach was flophouses and very expensive retirement hotels,’’ he says. ``The real estate was worth nothing: A lot of it was abandoned or falling apart. The show wound up popularizing it, real estate went up and it became this kind of hot international place. But this is all old news. I didn’t want to go back to that.’‘

Michael, if you “didn’t want to go back to that” why are you holding your premiere in South Beach?

If your movie is so cool, go hold your fancy premier in Miami and see who shows up.

Maybe I’m just feeling jealous because I wasn’t invited to the party.

I am a big fan of Michael Mann. He originated the Miami Vice TV series, and then went on to direct (must see) movies like “Manhunter”, “Heat”, and “The Insider”.

I really want to like this movie.

Thankfully, the photo above shows that the Miami Vice Costume Department is keeping it real.

You can take the boy out of South Beach, but you can’t take South Beach out of the boy.
