Miami Delegation Promotes Tourism in China

Attention all you small businesses in Miami Beach that are worried about having a slow season, put your fears to rest.

Your Mayor, David Dermer, and the City of Miami Beach are sending a delegation of 22 local representatives to China this month to help promote tourism.

southflorida.bizjournals.com/southflorida/stories/2006/11/06/daily4.html

“The purpose of the visits is to strengthen municipal government ties between the Beijing District Government and the city of Miami Beach, explore and develop mutually beneficial business cooperation programs, initiate cultural exchanges, explore opportunities for business cooperation in development of Beijing’s Olympic District, and introduce cultural and business opportunities to each city’s citizens.”

How many people think a 7-day all expense paid trip to China for 22 people is good use of tax dollars?

Here is an estimate of how much a trip like this costs per person:

Airfare: $1,250
Hotel: $1,250
Food & Per-diem: $1,250
Total: $3,750

Times that by a 22-person delegation, and you get $82,500.

I’m all for networking, but can’t we cut the delegation back to 10 representatives, and donate $1,000 to Rebecca for her anti-litter signs.
