Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas holds the honor of being the world’s largest cruise ship. She is also the first cruise ship in the world with a permanent wave machine for the guests.
Created by WaveLoch, the 32-foot-wide by 40-foot-long FlowRider generates a thin sheet of water that flows over the pool’s soft surface, creating a wave-like shape. Similar to standing on top of a shooting fire extinguisher in 2-inch-deep pool, riders surf or body board against the waterflow of 30,000 gallons per minute.
To give cruisers a preview of the new surf attraction, Royal Caribbean is airing a TV commercial that shows surfing through the ages. You may have seen it. The messgae is: Longboard, Shortboard, Boogie Board, Onboard. The commercial ends with an ariel shot of the wave machine.
