November 07, 2007 By Gus in Miami: Local News

ABOVE: Miami Beach City Commissioner, Jonah Wolfson, was elected Novemeber 6, 2007.

Congratulations to Jonah Wolfson, Miami Beach’s new Commissioner.

Yesterday, Miami Beach voters went to the polls and elected Jonah Wolfson over Luis Salom to the Group 4 Seat of the Miami Beach Commission. Jonah garnered 55.29% of the vote.  At 32 years of age, Johan was the youngest candidate in the election. He received endorsements from Senator Bob Graham, Miami Herald, SunPost, Miami Vision Blogorama, Teamsters Union, Service Employees Union, Communications Union, and Firefighters Union Local 1403.

A Miami native, Jonah was born at Doctor’s Hospital in Coral Gables, and went on to study at Gulliver Prep School and then at Boston College, where he earned a B.A. in English. Following his studies in Boston, he continued his education, graduating from Chicago-Kent College of Law.

In law school, Jonah was an intern at the Cook County Office of the Public Defender, where he met is wife, Andrea. Jonah and Andrea Wolfson have been married for seven years. Andrea is now an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County, where she serves as division chief, prosecuting primarily homicide cases.

After graduating from law school, Jonah practiced civil litigation, and is now a partner with his father, Jerome Wolfosn in their civil trial practice, the Wolfson Law Firm located at 3399 SW 3rd Ave., Miami, FL; Phone: (305) 285-1608.

As a new City Commissioner, Jonah has promised to…

  • Lower Taxes and ensure residents receive quality public services for the taxes they pay.
  • Maintain and enhance public safety and police protection.
  • Improve services for seniors and children, including better parks and recreation programs.
  • Address the problem of affordable/workforce housing on Miami Beach.
  • Improve to keep streets clean, smooth and safe.

I like what Jonah stands for.

I’ve emailed him with questions about the need for a skateboard park in Miami Beach and how he plans to address nightclub safety, but have yet to receive a response. Jonah’s probably sleeping in today. Yesterday must have been an emotional day for him.
