Hurricanes Football Tailgating (Videos)

September 07, 2007 By Gus in Miami: Sports News  | 10 Comments

Have you been to a Miami Hurricanes football game? Habla Mierda says the tailgating parties are ghetto. I disagree.  Hip Hop music does not make a tailgating party ghetto. All the students look like they’re having a pretty fun, wholesome time. I bet many college football parties look something like this…

In the video below, a guy wearing a Hurricanes construction hat does a cool dance…

Hey, Habla Mierda, what’s so ghetto about that?

I see students eating hamburgers, tossing a football around, and representing with lots of school spirit. They even have their own convertible Hurricanetruckmobile with what looks like a tailgate that’s been modified into a bbq grill - that takes some serious “Pimp My Ride” skills. I’m impressed!

We should all just be thankful there’s no Reggaeton music in the videos.

Has anyone attended a Hurricanes football game? Please tell us what it was like in the comments below.

If I’m wrong about the “ghetto” thing, you can tell me.

"Hurricanes Football Tailgating (Videos)"

Habla Mierda says:

I didn’t mean ghetto in a bad way. That was my tailgate. The guy in the construction hat has been my very good friend for the past 8 years or so and own a body shop. He got the truck as payment for some work he did so we decided to turn it into a tailgate machine.

I love how it came out. We were up the night before the game until about midnight putting the finishing touches on it and testing out the grill to make sure we didn’t blow the thing up.

I meant it’s “ghetto” in the sense that I’m sure in Oklahoma or Nebraska or anywhere else in the country they don’t do tailgates where people build trucks and play Crank dat Soulja Boy out of a hood-rigged loud speaker that’s been bolted to the hood.

Specs on the truck
1989 Ford Ranger chopped up to be a convertible
Custom Roll bars put in
Seats wrapped in Orange vinyl with green piping
Horribly rushed paint job
BBQ welded to the tailgate with removable charcoal tray
Astro-turf in the bed.
2 AMPS, Sub-box/storage area
2 speakers from a boat in the back
1 loudspeaker built into the hood.

Thanks for the compliments and the link. Feel free to stop by any time to our tailgate. We’re in the E4 lot 4 hours before any home game.

Suzy says:

Who are you kidding? It was ghetto. I saw you guys as I rode by last Saturday.  I was the cutie in the green tank top on the bike with the cool, sunglassed kid on the back…

Suzy says:

Incidentally Gus, no “hey Suzy, Thanks for the link to the hablamierda blog.  It was cool.”?......

and Habla Mierda, I saw some honeys “gittin’ lo” to that Flo…

Gus says:

My apologizes, Suzy. Thank you for sending me the link to the tailgating videos, but If I remember correctly, it was I who introduced you to the site - Habla Mierda (Talking Shit).

You said…

Have you been to a Hurricanes football game, or do you only cruise around the parking lot? I’d love to hear you compare the Hurricanes football experience to a football game where you matriculated (went to school).

Suzy says:

Besides attending a few concerts there in the 80’s, and playing some soccer there in high school, I’ve only been in the OB for a football game once- but I was wearing ORANGE & BLUE!  And here’s where it’s gonna get get ugly: the OB can’t hold a candle to the SWAMP.. (although the OB allows alcohol and THE SWAMP does not)
+ I’m not a fair-weather fan. I don’t like the Canes and that’s that.  Why bother?  If need be, I can open my bedroom window and hear the announcer and the crowd.

Habla Mierda says:

Suzy,

The OB might not be the swap, but the OB, unlike the Swamp, has more national titles than Army.

I do suppose it was pretty ghetto, but at least that was by design. Got to say goodbye to the old girl in the most conspicuous way possible.

Wow, what a truck!

I’m ashamed to admit I never went to ONE ‘canes game, and I’m a graduate ... :-(
