Hard Rock Sold to Morgan Hotel Group - Delano Needs To Bring It Up A Notch

Morgan Hotel Group, a hospitality company that operates a chain of swanky, boutique hotels such as the Delano in Miami, and the Mondrian and Hudson in New York, announced a definitive agreement to acquire the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, an adjacent 23-acre land parcel, and other related assets for a purchase price of $770 million in cash.

“This transaction represents the third planned offering in the Las Vegas market by Morgans Hotel Group. The Company has already announced a joint-venture partnership with Boyd Gaming for their development project, Echelon Place, that will be anchored by two prominent MHG brands, Delano and Mondrian, which are expected to add a total of 1,600 rooms to the market in 2010.”

This is the first I have heard about the new Delano Hotel in Las Vegas. I hope the rooms are nicer than the Delano in Miami Beach.

Yesterday, I helped my friend, Mane, check into the hotel. He was super-excited to be staying there. Who wouldn’t be, right? But after seeing his room, we were both disappointed.

If you are staying at the Delano Miami, don’t expect to be spending lots of time relaxing in your room. Below is the ultra modern entertainment system that comes equiped with your room:

The room was painted and decorated ALL WHITE which made me feel uncomfortable.

What I also found strange was the bed; it was on wheels and it smacked up loud against the wall when you sat down on it. This means any attempt of some late night bed play is out the question. If you happen to get rambunctious, I would expect the people in the room next door to be complaining. On second thought, this is South Beach. They probably won’t mind, and may expect an invitation.

After seeing Mane’s room though, it was its obvious he was paying for the cool lobby…

...and the sexy pool.

If you visited the Hard Rock in Vegas you know how nice it is. They deserve to be sold for $770 million in cash, but I hope the hotel’s owner, Peter Morton, hasn’t sold out.

The Delano in Miami need to bring it up a notch or two. I hope the rooms at the Delano Vegas hotel are bigger and offer more amenities.

Thankfully, there is a happy ending to this story. Michelle called her friend at the hotel. They moved Mane to an oceanfront room. Hopefully, he’ll take more pics.

Update: HotelChatter reports that Morgans Hotel Group is looking to increase the room rates at the Hard Rock from $169 up to $230 a night to compete with other Strip Hotels.

This is a pretty old posting, considering the rooms, spa and basement have all been redone.
