This is a test: Google AdSense videos on Miami Beach 411.com

We all know “Video Killed The Radio Star”; it looks like boring website ads may be next.

Our favorite search engine, Google, has invited Miami Beach 411 to participate in a pilot for AdSense video distribution and sponsorship.

What is a pilot for AdSense video distribution and sponsorship you ask? It’s a month long test to see how engaging, relevant video content and people who use our website mesh.

Here’s how the Help Center describes the pilot:

“For this pilot we have selected content in the music, entertainment, finance, lifestyle, and sports categories. We’re working with content providers such as The Wall Street Journal Warner Music, Sony BMG, the NBA,  Epicurious and Style.com. The video content comes in the form of video channels which include one or more playlist of video. Each playlist is made up of video clips of up to a few minutes in length”

People complain MTV doesn’t show enough music videos—we have a solution—the new videos in our Nightlife section are fun to watch, and it’s easy to search the playlists to find more clips.

Here’s how it works…

On many of our nightclub pages we added the “Hip-Hop Hustle” channel which promises the best in Hip-Hop video!  This channel offers 3 playlists: Fresh Hip-Hop Mix, Hip-Hop Hits, and G’s up TV.

I’m particulary fond of the first video “Money in the Bank” by Lil Scrappy. If it wasn’t for that song, I may not have participated in Google’s pilot, the song fired me up:

After the video starts, you need to click the “Show Playlists” link to search for more songs. Video playlists are a sequence of 4 to 10 similar video clips that come grouped with video ads.

But wait! There’s more…

On many of the bars pages we added the “Rock Video” channel that offers three playlists: Hard Rawk, Alt Rock, and Classic Rock Favorites.

We also added the “Feature Artist Pass” that offers multiple music videos from feature artists. This week: Madonna, T.I. and Panic At The Disco.

So far, I’m pleased with the test. Google has a good selection of videos that fit it nicely on our nightlife pages.

This is the first time we have been invited to participate in a pilot program like this so it should be fun to see how the process works.

We hope you enjoy the videos. Please leave a comment and tell us what you think. Do the music videos mesh with our nightlife pages?

We are passionate about developing quality content and providing the best experience possible for our users. With this test, Google hopes to offer you new forms of engaging, content to meet our goals.

Google Reps will be checking these pages, I’m sure they’d like to hear your feedback too.
