[Video] Art Basel Opens With Iggy Pop And The Stooges - Full Concert

December 16, 2007 By Gus in  | 4 Comments

ABOVE: Watch the full concert of Iggy Pop and The Stooges that took place on opening night of Art Basel.  (Running Time: 1 hour and 10 minutes).

In a city that’s primarily known for Reggaeton and Club Music, I’m proud to say, Punk Rock is alive and well, living in Miami Beach, FL. But don’t just take my word for it. If you’re a fan of Punk music, I strongly encourage you to watch the full concert performed by The Stooges in Miami for the Art Basel opening…

Songs Performed By The Stooges In The Video:

  1. Loose (0:00 - 3:08)
  2. Down on the Street (3:08- 6:50)
  3. 1969 (6:50 - 10:08)
  4. I Wanna Be Your Dog (10:08 - 15:19)
  5. TV Eye (16:10 - 20:32)
  6. Dirt (20:32 - 25:50)
  7. Real Cool Time (25:50 - 28:50)
  8. No Fun (29:05 - 32:26)
  9. 1970 (35:55 - 40:13)
  10. Fun House (41:37 - 50:46)
  11. Skull Ring (50:47 - 54 :18)
  12. Little Electric Chair (54:19 - 59:11)
  13. My Idea Of Fun (59:53- 1:04:01)
  14. I Wanna Be Your Dog (1:04:02 - 1:08:37)

10 Things You’ll See In This Video:

  • Iggy looking strong, tan, and better than ever.
  • Security kicking the press off the front row.
  • 100 rabid fans rushing on stage with the band.
  • Mike Watt from the Minutemen writhing on the floor with his bass guitar.
  • The singer having a small hissy fit because there was a little too much light on the stage.
  • Iggy preaching to the crowd, “My idea of fun is killing everyone.”
  • Original Stooges Ron Asheton on Guitar and Scott Asheton on Drums.
  • Iggy pouring bottles of water over his head.
  • A real live mosh pit started by Iggy and Steve MacKay’s Saxophone.
  • About 2,000 people in the audience having a really fun time.

My only regret about the video is the shaky camera, but it’s a punk rock show. What do you expect?

Thankfully, I had my punk rock wife, Michelle, at my side who took some some great still photos of the band. See pictures of the concert

shakes says:

thanks again for this. track 5 is called, ‘t.v. eye’, while track 13 is simply called, ‘my idea of fun’.

Thanks for the corrections, shakes. I revised the song list. Don’t want to piss off The Stooges.

Joseph G. says:

Gus - orlando fan here.  Very generous helping of iggy and the stooges.  I wouldn’t worry about the camera - the whole thing works.  I hope the fan reaction in Miami prompts a US tour but I doubt you could beat the atmosphere of that night.  Iggy and the band was very tight.  Thanks again.

Gus says:

Thanks, Joseph. I’m happy you didn’t get too full. A US tour would be great.

Did you know there’s a movie in production about the early days of The Stooges? The title is “The Passenger.” Elijah Wood from “Lord Of The Rings” is playing Iggy.

Here’s some more LOTR/Iggy movie trivia: The CGI animators for “Lord of the Rings” used, among other images, Iggy Pop’s body when modeling the character of Gollum. According to one CGI person, Iggy had the right ratio of muscle and bone.
