From Cuban Refugee to Writing for TV

December 08, 2005 By Gus in Miami: Local News

Only in America: eleven years after floating across the Florida Straits in a boat from Cuba, former truck dispatcher Erick Hernández Morá has won a Simon & Schuster book contract as the top writer in a Telemundo telenovela-writing course. The course, called Taller Telemundo: Escritores (Telemundo Workshop: Writers), was sponsored by Miami-Dade College and the Spanish-language TV network.

Hernández was the only finalist who did not have a formal education. All he had was his love to write and a passion for daytime drama.
