Food Trucks Swarm Downtown Miami (Video)

Every time you turn around, it seems as if a new food truck has emerged in South Florida, reaching the masses through social media and providing yet more options for local foodies in what already is a highly competitive market.

Even the Burger Beast has his own food truck now, which makes sense considering how much money he was spending on the other food trucks.

But rather than turn against each other as you would expect, these trucks have banded together to set up shop at various locations throughout the county, essentially creating mobile food courts.

And that makes even more sense, considering most of these trucks are highly specialized in what they offer and not everybody in your party might want the same thing you do.

Street Food Fridays

Last Friday, eight food trucks gathered in front of the Miami Herald building in downtown Miami to kick off Street Food Fridays, which will be a regular gathering of food trucks on the first Friday of every month.

More than a thousand people showed up, braving lines for almost an hour and in some cases, leaving empty-handed when either the truck out of food or their lunch-hour had run out.

But it was an extremely successful event despite some minor glitches.

However, if you can’t afford to use up your lunch hour to wait in line, you can check them out for happy hour at various locations. Tuesday night, they gathered at Biscayne Blvd and 109th St.

The best way to keep up with these gatherings without having to follow each truck individually on Twitter (links listed below) and/or Facebook is to check out Burger Beast’s blog.

Speaking of which, the Burger Beast may turn out to have the most diverse menu of all the food trucks considering he will allow various South Florida restaurant owners/chefs s a turn at his truck.

Thursday night, El Mago de las Fritas - whom we already determined served the best Cuban hamburgers - will be manning the Burger Beast grill at Biscayne Blvd and 81 St. from 6 - 10 p.m.

Tim says:

I would love to see a truck where I work. There’s thousands of employees down here. There’s a cul-de-sac at 1400 NW 9th Avenue where a truck could park without a problem, I think.
