Drive to South Beach from 395/MacArthur (Video)

November 28, 2006 By Gus in Miami: Local NewsMiami: Travel News  | 2 Comments

People visiting Miami often have questions about how to drive to South Beach. They’re usually coming from Miami Airport, or Fort Lauderdale and need to get to Lincoln Road, or Ocean Drive.

If you are driving over to Miami Beach, there are two bridges you can cross: 195/Julia Tuttle Causeway and 395/MacArthur Causeway.

For this post, I want to focus on the most exciting, scenic, and convenient causeway: 395/MacArthur.

It’s exciting because when you drive via 395/MacArthur, you pass right next to Downtown Miami, Bicentennial Park, Carnival Center, Miami Herald, Parrot Jungle Island, Children’s Museum, Port of Miami, Fisher Island, and the Miami Beach Marina in under 5 minutes.

The drive ends at a convenient spot in South Beach where you can turn left on Alton Road, and get to the Lincoln Road Mall, or continue driving forward a few more blocks, and access the hotels on Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive.

Last week, Michelle and I were going to the Marina and decided to film the trip so you can see what it looks like:

This was just an ordinary day. The drive is more beautiful when the cruise ships are in port.

Here is a map showing the route to Miami Beach from the 395/MacArthur:

For lesser traffic, avoid 395/MacArthur on busy weekends 5pm and later. During rush hour it can be faster to take 195/Julia Tuttle.

I was born in Hollywood, but havent remembered much, until I moved here on New Years Eve.
Every 3 to 4 days, I take the drive to South Beach, and if your raised in the sticks or are NOT used to hustle n’ Bustle cities….. You better bring some maps,LOL!
I get lost in all the twisty turns/cars and people once in South Beach….but its AWESOME THERE!!
So.I dont really care about getting lost, if you have gas and the time, you’ll eventually find your way out again.
From my newfound experience, if you wanna see celebs or the nightlife (just out for the drive really)....go at night around 11PM or later….But make sure to dress up and bring money (LOTS) cause you wont want to stay in your car for very long!!! lol
I just love it here!! I’ll never move again!
