Cooking With Gas

BBQ Tip #1 - Keep the butante canister at least 15 feet away from the barbecue.

From nbc6:

Authorities say five people were injured Sunday on Virginia Key’s Hobie Beach when a gas canister they were using for grilling apparently exploded.

A Miami-Dade fire spokesman said three people, including a child, were critically burned and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Two others were also burned but less severely.

The butane canister was apparently too close to the barbecue when it exploded.

The correct way to light a barbecue is to open the lid and strike your match before turning on the gas. When you are finished barbecuing, turn off the gas valve and then the barbecue burners.
