Chalks Ocean Airways Seaplane Crashes Off Miami Beach

December 19, 2005 By Gus in Miami: Local News

Sadly, a Chalks Ocean Airways seaplane loaded with 18 passengers and two crew has crashed off Miami Beach. The twin-engine seaplane, which flies between downtown Miami and the Bahamas, crashed 50 yards off beach just after taking off.

Coast Guard rescuers quickly arrived on the scene, but found no survivors.

The National Transportation Safety Board website indicates no fatal accidents for Chalk’s since at least 1982, when the database began.

Update: Chalks Airways has decided to ground their entire fleet. An examination of the plane’s wing has found indications of a fatigue crack in the wing, said the National Transportation Safety Board.
