Puerto Rico consists of a main island of Puerto
Rico and various smaller islands, including Vieques, Culebra, Mona,
Desecheo, and Caja de Muertos.
Puerto Rico has sometimes been said to have a European (Spanish) descent
majority, an extinct Amerindian population, persons of mixed ancestry,
Africans, and a small Asian minority.

Location: Puerto Rico is a Caribbean, island between
the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, east of the Dominican
Republic.
Size: 9,104 square miles (23,579 square km), slightly
larger than Washington, DC

Language: Spanish, English
Climate: Tropical marine, mild; little seasonal temperature
variation
Terrain: Mostly mountains with coastal plain belt
in north; mountains precipitous to sea on west coast; sandy beaches
along most coastal areas. The highest point on the island is Cerro
de Punta at 4,389 feet (1,338 meters).

1031 miles (1660 km) from Miami, FL. The easiest way to visit the
Island is to fly.


Travel Requirement:
Beginning Jan 1, 2008, the Western
Hemisphere Travel Initiative requires all U.S. citizens, citizens
of the British Territory of Bermuda, and citizens of Canada and
Mexico visiting Puerto Rico to
have a passport or other secure document that establishes the bearer’s
nationality to enter or re-enter the United States.

Car rentals
and Taxi service is available on the island. Although metered rates
