South Beach Divers "PADI-- Really?"
Date: July 16, 2005
Reviewer: Miami Beach 411 User, Madison, WI
SBD uses a dive boat that uses a TREBLE hook to anchor TO THE REEF!!!!!! when positioning for the dive. I have only been a diver for a few years, but all of the magazines and common sense says that this is NOT the right thing to do. I was sickened by this. SBD advertises that they are a 5 Star PADI dive shop, but please be aware that this is NOT acceptable nor environmentally responsible. No wonder the reefs in that area are so barren.

Also be sure when booking with them (I never will again) that your transportation from the shop to the pier is arranged. Arriving at the shop as instructed 1 hour prior to the dive, once all the forms were filled out and having had the discussion with the OWNER (who was no where to be found the day of ) that I was a tourist and needed transportation I ended up having to hitch a ride with another couple who luckily had a rental car. W/o that, I would have had to take a taxi to the boat. Completely disorganized. I expected more from a dive shop that was this credentialled.
