Mark the Shark "Anti Conservationist and Rapist of Natural Resources"
Date: May 18, 2005
Reviewer: Miami Beach 411 User, Miami , FL
The most self serving and anti-conservationist charter fishing captain in South Florida (if not the world) Mark "The Shark" Quartianno.

This person is a pariah in the South Florida Sportfishing Community and is vilified for his Blatantly anti-conservationist practices of killing everything that his charters catch. He is a Dealer in Death, reveling in the gory spectacle of hanging indescriminately on a daily basis Multiple Sailfish, Marlin, and Sharks (Some of those sharks being Federally Protected Species), and other "Big Game" Species from his boat and the "Trophy Board" at his dock, All in the name of Self promotion. These are all species which should be released...there is no need to kill them as their food value is marginal at best and if a Fish Mount is desired, all that is needed for the taxidermist to produce a replica mount is estimated length and girth measurements. Mark The Shark knows this and still kills everything that is caught. nealy every fish he kills goes to waste.

Captains in South Florida regard his practices as unethical and destructive to the valuable resource to the community that our fish stocks represent to the community....Hundreds of Millions of Dollars are generated for a huge variety of businesses from fishing in South Florida and that very resource is what draws Tens of Thousands of Visitors every year to our community. This guy has absolutely no respect for that from which he derives his living.

Mark the Shark has a checkered history including Criminal Charges for the attempted illegal sale of Atlantic Sailfish, a fish which enjoys game Fish Status and may not be sold, and the illegal Possession of Sea Turtle, another protected species.

There was a recent Article in the Miami New Times exposing unsavory practices of this individual: here online adress of the Article: http://miaminewtimes.com/issues/2005-05-05/news/korten.html

I strongly urge you not to patronize this man's business.
