Chelsea Hotel "Beware!
Not what it claims to be"

I really don't understand how anyone could possibly have a good experience
here. It was the worst hotel we've ever stayed in and we've traveled
a bit. They give themselves three stars??? On what planet?!?! I picked
this hotel (Oct. 2005) because the website made it look so great.
Do not make the same mistake I did. The staff are as incompetent and
rude as they come. I reserved the rooms online, but when I got there
they wanted me to pay $100 deposit for the mini bar. That detail is
not on the site. I didn't want the mini bar and had them remove it
and we had to wait in the lobby for 45 min. They advertised free Happy
Hour drinks for guests, but it's only for Vodka (Crystal Palace, which
is like jet fuel)! When we finally got in our rooms we realized they
gave us a double, not the KING we reserved. Their website says it
offers complimentary bottle water (which we didn't get) and robes
(which we also didn't have). We were tired and frustrated so we just
took it. The room is tiny and there were no drawers, which didn't
bother me because we only stayed one night. The shower was made to
be artsy and funky NOT functional. The sink kept getting clogged and
the shower looks like it should have working sliding glass doors,
but there's only one, and it only covers half, so water gets everywhere.
We only got one towel, one washcloth and one handtowel (remember,
this is for a double bed room). There is no operating restaurant and
the continental breakfast is very basic, with cold cereal and a toaster,
but no toast, everything being served in styrofoam cups/plates. Oh,
and I have to say I've never been in a hotel or motel room that DIDN'T
HAVE A PHONE!!! The hallways are extremely dark. Upon checkout they
informed me that I had to pay an additional daily resort fee of USD5.
They could have at least informed be when checking in. Do yourself
a favor, STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE - there are plenty of hotels in Miami
Beach which are much nicer and much better value than this.
Chelsea Hotel "Not so much"
Date: September 1, 2005

I would not return to this hotel. I think they were attempting modern
and cool, but it came across as grungy. There was water under the
cheap fake wood floors that seeped out when you walked over the floor
near the bathroom door. It was 80 degrees when I was there and the
a/c barely produced enough to keep me comfortable, I would hate to
be there when it is 100 degrees. I woke up to notice two small caterpillar
type bugs crawling on my pillow. Oh and after paying 20% of the hotel
cost in fees, when I checked out they wanted another six dollars in
"resort" fees. I don't know what a resort fee is or why
they felt they could charge me that fee. They list a discount price
on hotels.com and then take it away with "resort" fees.
If you're not picky and you want to save a buck or two on sobe then
go for it, otherwise stay away, because they're not using the resort
fee they sneak in there to pay the exterminator.
